Andrew Anderson made history for HHS on March 2nd when he became our first MHSAA State Champion in the sport of bowling.  The morning began with 60 bowlers knowing only 16 would qualify for the afternoon head to head bracket competition.  The scores of Andrew's six morning games were 202, 299, 211, 269, 215 and 226 for an impressive 237 average. He lead the field of 16 to begin the afternoon.  In head to head competition and on his way to the state champion title, he bowled eight games. Scores in those eight games were 202, 221, 213, 202, 197, 212, 289, and 229 for a 221 average. His average on the day for 14 games was 228...just incredible! Andrew made history...our 1st MHSAA Bowling State Champion! Way to go Andrew! We are proud of you!
Powerlifting Team...2nd in the State!

The Holly Powerlifting Team finished second in the state at the Michigan High School Powerlifting Association State Finals. The performance of the 2013 team marks the fourth consective year that Holly has finished either first or second in the state. Finishing in the top ten in their respective weight classes were Taylor Fields, Austin Chmura, Javon Barr, Jaime Cardenas, David Tremblay, Joe Spina, Kyle McCarty, Nick Sammut, Tom O'Connor, Andrew Giles, Evin Papuga, Kyle Vandell, and Josh Sayles. Congratulations Guys!
2011 Alum Houldsworth Qualifies for NCAA Championships

Josh Houldsworth 2011 graduate and 4x All-State and 2x State Champion from Holly placed Second at his Conference Finals yesterday 3/09.  He place 2nd behind perhaps the best wrestler in the nation Kyle Dake of Cornell.  Dake is a 3x NCAA Champion and currently ranked #1 at 165 lbs.

Josh was seeded 7th going into the EIWA Tournament.  Houldsworth opened the EIWA Championships with a great win, upsetting the second-seeded Corey Lear, 10-3. Bucknell's Lear advanced past Lehigh's Benjamen Haas in the opening round, but did not bring the same intensity to his match against Houldsworth. Houldsworth, also a junior for Columbia, maintained control of the match throughout to secure the win.
The semifinals of the 165-pound bracket featured a rematch of a Northeast Duals bout in which Nicholas Visicaro from Rutgers (the sixth seed) defeated Houldsworth, 4-3. This time around it would be Houldsworth who would earn the win, downing Visicaro with a 6-2 decision.
Houldsworth who lost to Dake by fall earlier in the season, improved on the rematch and lost not by fall but by major decision.
By placing top 3 at his weight Houldsworth Qualifies for the Division 1 NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa from March 21-23.
Josh is Hollys second wrestler to do so at the D1 level since Paul Mc Devitt (1989) who wrestled for Easter Michigan 1990-1993 but he is our very first to earn a birth at the NCAA Championship.
Boys' Bowling Coach Fred Walz Chosen FML Coach of the Year!

Holly's Boys' Bowling Coach Fred Walz was chosen by his counterparts in the Flint Metro League as the Coach of the Year.  Coach Walz was instrumental in getting bowling to be considered a varsity sport at HHS and has served in the capacity of head girls or head boys coach for a number of years.  Holly is lucky to have Coach Walz at the helm.  Congratulations Coach...well deserved.
